INTERVIEW TO ADRIENNE LATEX DESIGN BY BEDESEME MAG
(28 March 2018)
About brand
In a tweet size, who’s Adrienne Latex Design?
I am a Czech fetish designer who creates custom latex designs for my customers since 2006. Besides latex I also create classic corsets and leather clothing.
Which was your first creation?
A leather mini skirt with lacing from my mom's big skirt.
Who were your customers in those days?
My close friends.
Nowadays your pieces are sold in several countries. How did it all started and how did you evolve until now?
I started gradually after I attended my first fetish party in Prague. I started to create fashion for myself and for my friends. I also became a model a bit and founded Mistress Adrienne website. This drew attention of more people – but I was no professional dominatrix, it was just my artistic nickname. For a long time my customers were visiting me literally in my living room. Then it was a few years where are managed to do a lot – all different materials and designs what people wanted. But I had only Czech and Slovak customers at that time. In 2008 I had my first fashion show.
I had a hiatus to have kids – between 2010 and 2014. After that I decided to focus on latex and let go of creating corsets. Lack also became less appealing to me as it lasts shorter than latex. Facebook helped me to spread the word out into the world. I have a unique product that gets shipped worldwide – latex gloves with nails. But the besides that I main body of my work is creating high-quality perfectly fitting clothing, demanded by my customers. Gowns, shirts, trousers, catsuits, stocking, … you name it. In the meantime I do a little bit of modeling and collecting new fans from around the world :-).
How was the fetish scene in the 90’s, and now?
I don't know – in 90's I was maybe just making clothes for my dolls ;). But now I like it a lot!
Was the world ready to use your designs in those days? What changed since then and what remains the same?
My designs are more on the classics side so I am not afraid that those wouldn't be well received.
Is it easy to stand out in this industry?
That's not easy at all – I am trying to stick to my values: highest quality manufacturing with great attention to detail, elegant but still very wearable minimalistic designs, and of course beautiful photos.
How do you see the trend in alternative design in Europe? Is it still just for a niche market or do you think the market is widening and that we’ll see the day when it’s integrated within everyday clothes?
I am mostly watching my own bubble in the fetish community, so it's hard to comment globally. But I believe that alternative design should be only in special places – if it was everywhere, it would become mainstream and might degenerate.
Which materials do you use in your creations? And what makes you choose them?
Mostly latex! Sometimes leather, and if somebody has strong preference then also faux leather or lack. And of course silk for corsets. Each material is suitable for something else – and with my classical fashion education I have flexibility to create from different materials. But latex is unique – its beautiful, it is sensuous and scents nice, and is nice to work with.
Where do you get your inspiration to create a new collection? Which are your major influences?
I am creating models that I would like to wear myself, in which I feel great and also comfortabe – and it must fit perfectly! Tuning of patters is my passion. Then also taking inspiration from my man. And then when a muse kisses me – then I want to do it here and now and not to think twice why.
Is yours more a fashion brand or a fetish brand?
My brand is a pure fetish brand – but personally I love combining latex with normal clothes, such as tight jeans.
Near future plans: what’s on the table for the next few months?
In a month from now I will have a fashion show in Prague and thus my workplace is overflowing a bit, together with orders from my customers.
Tell us which are your goals as a designer.
I love to sell things I design and manufacture – it is fantastic to sell things that come out of my imagination.
Which celebrity would you love to dress in one of your creations?
I am not too much into chasing celebrities – but I work with Honeyhair for instance. I love to work with the client on-site and thus any other celebrities would have to be from around the Czechia.
If someone wants to buy one of your creations, where should they go? You do all your pieces custom made to your customers or do you have some “of the shelve” pieces that people can buy or order?
I have an eshop (Czech only for now) where I have things available in stock. Once in a year I have a booth during Prague Fetish Weekend. But most of my work is custom creations – which is about a customers approaching me on individual basis and I create things for them.
What would be your recommendation to someone who wants to buy their first latex outfit?
Start with the small bits and pieces and try out what works for me and what does not. Don't start with a catsuit or something big. I even had my valued customer, who started big in latex only to realize that she has problems with it, so we converged to leather at the end. And you need to know how to take care of latex. And please, don't buy cheap crap from China.
Do you think fashion and real life can mix?
Sure that fashion is a part of life. But it's also clear I am not going to a forest on high heels and in latex (unless I go for photo shooting ;) ) even if I feel great in latex/heels generally. But in woods I feel good in sneakers and outdoor equipment.
What would you say to our readers to be encouraged to buy your designs?
If you are searching highest quality, elegance and possibility to design unique things – then I am here for you!
Tell us about your projects for the future:
I want to simplify ordering for my customers and also need to build a bigger manufacturing team.
